CUÁL ES NUESTRO PROYECTO // WHAT IS OUR PROJECT
Desde que volvimos de Sudamérica, yo después de un año y él después de 6 meses, teníamos claro que nuestra vida ya no estaba en Europa. Pero como de ideas no se vive, volvimos a Europa y pasamos allí 2 años en Alicante, una bonita ciudad en la costa mediterránea en España. La verdad que no nos podíamos quejar tampoco.
Ese tiempo en Alicante nos hizo pensar en lo que queríamos hacer en el futuro y cómo podíamos encontrar la manera de volver a esa vida más sencilla, más natural y más libre que encontramos en Latinoamérica.
Una de las cosas que más feliz me hizo cuando en el viaje fue aprender a surfear. Desde muy pequeña siempre he tenido un profundo respeto al océano y a grandes ríos. Esto tiene un motivo.
Cuando tenía 7 años estuve a punto de morir ahogada en un río. Estábamos bañándonos y abrieron la presa que conectaba con ese río. Recuerdo oír un fuerte estruendo y ver cómo bajaba por el río una ola negra con ramas, rocas, troncos, tierra... en nuestra dirección. Antes de que la ola impactase, recuerdo que me sacaron del agua y pude ver cómo pasaba por delante de mí y se llevaba a algunos amigos míos río abajo. Afortunadamente todos salieron del agua antes o después y quedó en un susto para la tragedia que pudo haber sido.
Desde entonces, el agua me pone nerviosa y tensa cuando no hago pie o cuando la corriente es fuerte.
Por eso me hizo tan feliz aprender a surfear en Ecuador. Poder deslizarme por encima de las olas, poder controlarlas, leerlas y entenderlas me dio de vuelta un poder que nunca había tenido. Convertir las olas en mis mejores amigas después de haber puesto mi vida en juego con apenas 7 años era el gran logro de mi vida.
Así nació la idea de juntar el surf con mi profesión desde hace 10 años y crear un hostel de surf en la costa del Pacífico. Ese fue la primera gran decisión que acordamos sobre este proyecto. Pero después vinieron muchos añadidos más.
No queremos que sea un hostel cualquiera. Queremos que sea un lugar de reunión, de crecimiento, de ayuda y una fuente de desarrollo para este país que, como ya he contado, acaba de salir del infierno.
Este surf hostel viene cargado de proyectos para la comunidad, de desarrollo de recursos locales y de muchas ganas de pasarlo bien, de disfrutar del proceso y de conocer a lo que será nuestra familia de aquí en adelante.

Ever since we returned from South America, after a year for me and after six months for him, it was clear to us that our life was no longer in Europe. But since ideas are not enough, we returned to Europe and spent two years there in Alicante, a beautiful city on the Mediterranean coast of Spain. We really couldn't complain either.
That time in Alicante made us think about what we wanted to do in the future and how we could find a way to return to that simpler, more natural, and freer life we found in Latin America.
One of the things that made me happiest during the trip was learning to surf. From a very young age, I've always had a deep respect for the ocean and large rivers. There's a reason for this.
When I was 7 years old, I almost drowned in a river. We were swimming, and they opened the dam that connected to that river. I remember hearing a loud roar and seeing a black wave coming down the river, with branches, rocks, logs, dirt... in our direction. Before the wave hit, I remember being pulled out of the water, and I could see it passing in front of me and taking some of my friends downriver. Fortunately, everyone got out of the water sooner or later, and it was just a scare for the tragedy that could have happened.
Since then, the water makes me nervous and tense when I'm off my feet or when the current is strong.
That's why learning to surf in Ecuador made me so happy. Being able to glide over the waves, control them, read them, and understand them gave me back a power I'd never had before. Turning the waves into my best friends after risking my life at just 7 years old was the greatest achievement of my life.
That's how the idea of combining surfing with my career 10 years ago and creating a surf hostel on the Pacific coast was born. That was the first big decision we agreed on about this project. But many more additions came later.
We don't want it to be just any hostel. We want it to be a place of gathering, growth, support, and a source of development for this country, which, as I've already mentioned, has just emerged from hell.
This surf hostel is packed with community projects, local resource development, and a strong desire to have a good time, enjoy the process, and get to know our future family.
